How to Get to & Leave Urumqi

By Air

Urumqi is one of the cities that one of China's seven civil aviation administrations locates. Also, it is the eight major aviation hub ports in China. By 2013, Urumqi international airport operates 145 domestic routes (17 in Xinjiang), 25 lines of the international routes, and 1 for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan areas. Urumqi Diwopu International Airport
The airport is located in Diwopu, with 16 miles away from the city proper. It offers flights to places like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Islamabad, Tashkent, Novosibirsk, Moscow, etc.

Airport Transportation

• Airport shuttle bus (airport –city center)
  Price: 15 yuan each.
  business time: 6：30 a.m. to 11.p.m. in summer and 7：30 a.m. to 10 p.m. in winter.
  Departure time: In summer, it departs every 30 minutes from 06:30 to 08:00, and every 1 hour from 8:00 to 23:00; in winter days, the shuttle bus departs every 30 minutes from 07:00 to 09:00, and every 1 hour from 09:00 to 23:00.Other buses: Bus. No.27, 51 and 306

Railway

There are 2 major railway stations in Urumqi, and they are Urumqi Railway Station and Urumqi West Railway Station. Now railway to Beijing, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Xi’an, Lanzhou, Chengdu, Korla, Aksu, etc. has been available. International railway trains to Alma-Ata are available.

There are 7 subway lines in Urumqi. Some of them are still under construction, but those established are quite convenient for passengers.

Taxi

Taxi is also a convenient way offering convenience for passengers here. For visitors, taxi could help them save lots of time when they get to new places. There are a great deal of taxi here, but it’s normal for you to wait for a long time when in rush hour. The start price is 10yuan for 3 miles, and after that, 1.3 yuan each mile will be the price.

Tips: It’s normal that if you are asked to register at roadside checkpoints in the evening when you get out of the city. In addition, men are not allowed to sit on co-pilot's seat. It is a taxi rule there.
