How to Get & Leave There

There are 3 airports in Altay and two of them belong to scenic spot airports which would much more convenient for tourists. Here is some information about the 3 airports.

• Altay Airport
  Situated in southwest of Altay city, the airport port is 10 kilometers away from the city proper. 450 kilometers far away from Urumqi, it meets National Highway 216. You could reach the city center from there by taxi. There is no airport shuttle bus.
• Fuyun Koktokay Airport
  It is situated near the Halajila Village (哈拉吉拉村) of Tu’erhong Township of Fuyun county. It is close to the national 5A-level scenic spot -- Koktokay. The airport is about 28 kilometers far away from Fuyun County center.
• Kanas Airport
  Located in southern rim of Kanas Scenic Spot, it is about 50 kilometers away from Kanas Lake. It is China’ third and Xinjiang’s second exclusive airport branch for the tourist scenic spot.The early flight from Urumqi is at 9:15 a.m. and reaches Kanas Airport at 10：10a.m.. After 50-minute intervals, it back to Urumqi as 11：00 a.m. and reaches Urumqi at 11：55 a.m.. For the flight at noon, it starts at Urumqi Airport at 5：20 p.m. and gets to Kanas Airport at 6：20 p.m.. Also after 50-minute intervals, it starts at 7：10 p.m. and gets to Urumqi at 8：10 p.m.. The mentioned time above is all Beijing time.China Southern Airlines opened the flight of “Urumqi -- Yining -- Kanas -- Urumqi” in 2013, and later, during tourist season peak, the flight to northern areas is available -- “Urumqi -- Altay -- Yining -- Urumqi”.

By Train

There are 3 railway stations in Altay: Beitun Railway Station, Fuhai Railway Station and Altay Railway Station. Here is some information about the three railway stations.

• Beitun Railway Station
  It is 4 to 5 kilometers far away from the city center of Beitun city. There are 3 bus routes between the station and city center, which takes 1 yuan each person. Also, you could take taxi as well.
• Fuhai Railway Station
  Located in southwest of Fuhai county and central part of Kuibei Railway, it is 429 kilometers away from Kuitun Railway Station.
• Altay Railway Station
  It is located in Altay city and was started to be used in 2017. the station provides trains and high-speed trains to places around in Xinjiang as well as other provinces and cities.

By Long-distance Bus

There are 2 passenger stations in Altay: Altay Passenger Station and Altay Prefecture Passenger Station.

• Altay Passenger Station
  It is located in the Altay city which provides long-distance bus around.
• Altay Prefecture Passenger Station
  Located on Yinshui Road of Altay city, it provides long-distance bus to other areas and places in Xinjiang, such as Karamay, Shihezi, Urumqi, etc.

How to Get Around

Bus

There are a few bus routes in Altay: Bus No.1, 2, 101 and 102. It take 1 to 2 yuan each. The business time is 8：30 a.m. to 8：30 p.m., but it may vary based on the route.

Taxi

For taxi, the starting price is 3 yuan within 3 miles, and it takes 1.2 yuan each mile when beyond 3 miles.
