Nyingchi Transportation

Located in the southeast of Tibet, Nyingchi borders with Lhasa to east, Shannan to southwest, Qamdo to south and Nagqu to north. Taking flights and driving are the two major ways to get to Nyingchi.

How to Get to Nyingchi

By Air

Nyingchi Mainling Airport is located in the Mainling County, 40 kilometers north of Bayi District. Up to now, there are flights to Lhasa, Chengdu and Chongqing. The airport shuttle bus costs 25 yuan per person and the departure time depends on the arrival time of flights.

By Train

Sichuan-Tibet Railway which stretches as far as 1629 km is expected to be finished around 2030. The 1629 km railway covers 979km in Tibet Autonomous Region and 650km in Sichuan Province, and consists of three parts, i.e. Chengdu-Kangding, Kangding- Nyingchi, Lhasa-Nyingchi. By the time the construction of entire Sichuan-Tibet Railway finishes, it is believed to take only 15 hours to travel from Chengdu to Lhasa. (While currently it takes 41:35 hours). What's more, Sichuan-Tibet Railway passes through Nyingchi. Once it is completed, it is easy to take a trip to Nyingchi by train.

Long-distance Bus

After arriving at Lhasa by air or train, tourists should take long-distance bus in Lhasa East Bus Station to Bayi District, Nyingchi County, which is 406 kilometers away from Lhasa. The driving time is 8 hours and the price is 120 yuan.

There are buses running to Mainling County, Nang County, Bome County and Zayu County in Nyingchi area and also Lhasa, Qamdo and Lhoka in Tibetan area.

Bayi District - Mainling County: 70 kilometers, 25 yuan.

Bayi District - Nang County: 241 kilometers, 105 yuan.

Bayi District - Bome County: 240 kilometers, 120 yuan.

Bayi District - Lulang: 50 yuan.

How to Get Around Nyingchi

By Taxi

The starting price of taxi in Nyingchi is 10 yuan and there is always no meter. It's recommended to go walking because the downtown is not large. Pedicabs can be seen everywhere and the price is usually 3 yuan.

By Bus

Traveling by bus can better observe the scenery or city dynamics along the way. A city change may be reflected in the street, and a bus can better observe the changes in scenery and streetscape along the way, you can understand the dynamics of a city.
