By the end of 2016, Yibin city has three districts and seven counties under its jurisdiction, with a total of 120 towns and 52 townships (including 11 Miao ethnic townships and 2 Yi ethnic townships). People's government of the city stands at No.8, Shunan Avenue(蜀南大道), Nanan Subdistrict(南岸街道), Xuzhou District(叙州区).
3 Districts: Xuzhou District(叙州区), Cuiping District(翠屏区), Nanxi District(南溪区)
7 Counties: Jiang'an County(江安县), Changning County(长宁县), Gao County(高县), Junlian County(筠连县), Gong County(珙县), Xingwen County(兴文县), Pingshan County(屏山县)
Yibin (宜宾市) lies in southeastern Sichuan, where the Jinsha River and Min River meet and the waterway begins to be called the Yangtze River. Known as the “First City on the Yangtze River,” “City of Chinese Baijiu” and “Bamboo Capital of China,” Yibin combines river landscapes, historic towns, liquor culture, bamboo forests, karst geology and ethnic-minority traditions. Its recorded urban history extends for more than 2,200 years.
Yibin currently administers three municipal districts and seven counties: Cuiping District, Nanxi District, Xuzhou District, Jiang’an County, Changning County, Gao County, Gong County, Junlian County, Xingwen County and Pingshan County. The latest complete citywide list published in the 2025 Yibin Statistical Yearbook, reflecting the situation at the end of 2024, records 136 township-level divisions: 14 subdistricts, 105 towns, five ordinary townships and 12 ethnic townships. An official 2025 municipal emergency-management report also refers to 136 township and subdistrict service points.
Yibin Sanjiang New Area and Yibin Lingang Economic and Technological Development Zone are functional development and management areas rather than additional county-level administrative divisions. Sanjiang New Area administers or coordinates parts of Cuiping and Nanxi, including Baishawan, Shaping and Shuangcheng subdistricts.
Tourism Geography of Yibin
Yibin’s tourism resources can be divided into four broad zones. The central river-city area includes Cuiping, Xuzhou and Nanxi; the eastern bamboo and heritage corridor includes Jiang’an and Changning; the southern mountain and ethnic-culture zone includes Gao, Gong, Junlian and Xingwen; and Pingshan forms the western ecological and ancient-town zone.
The city’s principal destination brands include Lizhuang Ancient Town, Wuliangye liquor culture, Shunan Bamboo Sea, Xingwen UNESCO Global Geopark, Bo hanging-coffin heritage, Miao and Yi cultural communities, hot springs, old residences and the Three-River Confluence. Xinhua identifies the bamboo sea, Xingwen’s karst landscapes, Bo heritage and liquor culture as defining elements of Yibin’s cultural landscape.

For tourism planning, central Yibin, Lizhuang and Wuliangye can be combined as one urban-cultural section; Jiang’an and Changning form the principal ancient-residence and bamboo route; Xingwen, Gong and Junlian are suitable for geology and minority-culture travel; and Pingshan is best treated as a separate ecological extension. A complete journey covering all ten districts and counties generally requires at least seven to ten days, while a first visit should focus on the central city, Lizhuang, Shunan Bamboo Sea and Xingwen Stone Sea.
