Located in the western part of the Chengdu Plain, Chongzhou (崇州) is an ancient city with more than 2,300 years of urban history and over 4,300 years of agricultural civilization. Formerly known as Shuzhou (蜀州), it is often called the “Shu within Shu” because of its deep connection with Sichuan culture, traditional villages, and pastoral landscapes.
Known as one of Chengdu’s favorite weekend destinations, Chongzhou combines snow mountains, forests, wetlands, rural landscapes, ancient towns, and intangible cultural heritage. It is an important part of the Tianfu Ancient Town Cluster, featuring three major tourism themes: Tang-Song cultural gardens represented by Yanhuachi, living Sichuan ancient towns including Jiezi, Yuantong, and Huaiyuan, and creative rural heritage villages represented by Daoming Bamboo Art Village and Tianfu Liquor Village.
With its convenient location, Chongzhou can be reached from Chengdu West Railway Station by high-speed rail in about 16 minutes, making it an ideal destination for cultural exploration, countryside relaxation, and slow travel.

Jiezi Ancient Town is closely connected with Qingcheng Mountain culture and offers a combination of mountain scenery, Buddhist heritage, and traditional Sichuan lifestyle. Yuantong Ancient Town developed because of river transportation and was once an important commercial port, preserving memories of ancient Sichuan trade routes.
🎋 Intangible Cultural Heritage and Rural Creativity
The most representative cultural symbol of Chongzhou is Daoming Bamboo Weaving (道明竹编), a traditional craft with a history of more than 2,000 years. At Daoming Bamboo Art Village, visitors can explore bamboo craftsmanship, modern rural architecture, creative workshops, and local lifestyle experiences.
The city also promotes the integration of traditional culture with contemporary tourism through villages such as Tianfu Liquor Village, where visitors can learn about Sichuan liquor brewing culture and rural industries.
🌿 Ecological Landscapes and Slow Travel Experiences
Chongzhou’s natural environment combines western Sichuan mountain landscapes with fertile plains. Jiguan Mountain Forest Park, Jiulong Valley, Baita Lake, and Qimu River Wetland Park provide opportunities for hiking, photography, cycling, camping, and family-friendly outdoor activities.

📚 Historical and Cultural Heritage
Yanhuachi Museum is one of Chongzhou’s most important cultural landmarks. The ancient garden reflects the elegance of traditional Chinese official gardens and connects with the literary traditions of Sichuan. The site of Lu You Memorial Temple also preserves the memory of the famous Southern Song poet Lu You, who once served in Shuzhou.
Together with ancient towns, temples, traditional villages, and craft communities, Chongzhou presents a complete cultural tourism experience combining history, architecture, agriculture, handicrafts, and local lifestyle.
