    Liaoning offers a 144-hour visa-free transit at ports in Shenyang and Dalian, allowing eligible travelers from multiple countries to stay for short-term tourism. For regular visits, a tourist visa is recommended in advance.

    Popular attractions such as Shenyang Imperial Palace, Zhang’s Mansion, Laohutan Ocean Park (老虎滩海洋公园), and Panjin Red Beach require online reservations 1–2 days in advance.

    The official currency is Chinese Yuan (CNY). Major hotels, shopping malls, and attractions accept Visa and Mastercard.

    Mobile payments like WeChat Pay and Alipay are widely accepted, including in small shops and on public transport. For remote areas, carrying some cash is recommended.

    Currency exchange is available at Bank of China branches in Shenyang, Dalian, and Dandong, airports, and railway stations, with a passport required.

    Airports: Shenyang Taoxian International Airport (沈阳桃仙国际机场) and Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport (大连周水子国际机场) connect Liaoning to Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, and Europe. Regional airports include Dandong, Jinzhou, and Yingkou. Airport shuttles, metros, and taxis connect to city centers.

    Rail: Shenyang and Dalian are Northeast China’s high-speed rail hubs. The Harbin–Dalian and Beijing–Harbin high-speed lines link major Chinese cities, while Dandong station serves as a border transport hub.

    Sea: Dalian Port provides international cruises and domestic ferries connecting the Shandong Peninsula and overseas destinations.

    High-speed trains connect all major cities efficiently:

    • Shenyang → Dalian: ~2.5 hours

    Long-distance buses reach smaller towns and scenic spots not served by rail.


    City Transport

    Shenyang and Dalian have metro systems covering major attractions. Public buses are inexpensive, while taxis and ride-hailing services provide convenient options.

    Winter roads can be icy; cautious driving is essential. Mountain roads require reduced speed due to sharp curves.

    Seasonal weather varies significantly: spring and autumn are dry and windy, summer brings thunderstorms, and winter is extremely cold. Proper preparation is essential for comfort and safety.

    For shopping, choose licensed stores for seafood and local specialties. Tipping is not a common practice in Liaoning.
