Panjin (盘锦市), located in the southwest of Liaoning Province, at the mouth of the Liao River (辽河), offers a unique travel experience with vast wetlands and coastal scenery. Its transportation network consists of four expressways, five railways, and a main road system of seven vertical and six horizontal routes. The city’s core hubs include Panjin Station (盘锦站) in the urban center, Panjin North Station (盘锦北站) in the suburbs, Panjin Port (盘锦港), and Chenjia Airport (陈家机场) for general aviation.
Due to the dispersed nature of attractions and long distances between them, self-driving tours or private cars are highly recommended. Public transport operates seasonal tourist lines, which are limited during off-peak periods. Panjin is divided into several key areas: Xinglongtai / Shuangtaizi (兴隆台 / 双台子) for urban wetlands, Beilin, and art streets; Dawa District (大洼区) for the Red Beach, Jinbotan, and Beilu Pastoral attractions; Panshan County (盘山县) for rice fields, farms, and rural sightseeing; and Liaodong Bay New District (辽东湾新区) along the coast and Jinbotan Beach.
How to Arrive in Panjin
By Air
Although Panjin has no civil airport, several nearby airports provide convenient access:
- Shenyang Taoxian Airport (沈阳桃仙机场): Transfer via high-speed train from Shenyang Station / Shenyang North Station to Panjin Station takes around 1 hour. Airport buses also connect directly to Panjin city.
- Jinzhou Bay Airport (锦州湾机场): Bus transfers to Panjin city take approximately 1 hour.
- Dalian Zhoushuizi Airport (大连周水子机场): High-speed trains from Dalian North Station to Panjin Station take around 2 hours.
By Train / High-Speed Rail
The most recommended option is Panjin Station (盘锦站) in Shuangtaizi District (双台子区), located in the city center and about 30 km from Red Beach (红海滩). Lines include the Beijing–Harbin Railway (京哈 / 盘营客专), connecting Beijing (~3h), Shenyang (~1h), and Dalian (~2h). From the station, taxis and buses serve city and tourist areas.
Other stations:
- Panjin North Station (盘锦北站): Located in Panshan County (盘山县) near Jinzhou, about 40 km from the city. Limited bus options and higher taxi costs make it less convenient.
- Panshan Station (盘山站): Mainly for slow trains and freight.
By Car
Self-driving offers the highest flexibility:
- Beijing → Jingha Expressway → Panjin: ~6h
- Shenyang → Shenhai Expressway → Panjin: ~2h
- Dalian → Shenhai Expressway → Panjin: ~3h
Highway exits: Panjin / Panjin South (near city center and Red Beach), Panjin North (remote), Liaodong Bay (near Jinbotan Beach).
By Long-Distance Bus
- Panjin Bus Station: Frequent departures to Shenyang, Dalian, Jinzhou.
- Dawa Bus Station: Serves Red Beach, Jinbotan, and Dawa scenic areas.
