Changbai Mountains Administrative Divisions

Changbai Mountain (长白山) is a majestic volcanic range and ecological treasure located in the southeastern part of Jilin Province (吉林省), straddling Antu County (安图县) of Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture and Fusong County (抚松县) and Changbai Korean Autonomous County (长白朝鲜族自治县) of Baishan City (白山市). Its southeastern slopes border North Korea, creating a unique cross-border cultural and ecological zone.

In 2005, the Jilin Provincial Government established the Changbai Mountain Protection and Development Zone Management Committee, a provincial-level authority responsible for unified planning, protection, development, and management of the mountain region. The administration oversees three economic management districts: Chibei (池北区), Chixi (池西区), and Chinan (池南区), forming the core structure for tourism and ecological governance.

Chibei District (池北区｜formerly Erdaobaihe Town 二道白河镇)

Administration: Chibei serves as the northern gateway to Changbai Mountain and hosts the management committee headquarters.

Tourism: The district is home to the North Slope Scenic Area (5A), featuring the iconic Heavenly Lake (Tianchi 天池), Changbai Waterfall (长白瀑布), Green Pool (绿渊潭), and the Underground Forest (地下森林). Visitors can also explore Meiren Song Corridor Bridge (美人松廊桥) and experience Mojie Rafting (魔界漂流) for adventure tourism.

Chixi District (池西区｜formerly Donggang Town 东岗镇 / Songjianghe Town 松江河镇)

Administration: Chixi functions as the western gateway and includes transportation hubs such as Changbai Mountain Airport (长白山机场) and high-speed rail stations.

Tourism: The West Slope Scenic Area (5A) offers stunning views of Tianchi West, Jinjiang Grand Canyon (锦江大峡谷), and the High Mountain Garden (高山花园). The district also hosts the Wanda Changbai Mountain Resort (万达度假区), where visitors can enjoy skiing, hot springs, and year-round high-end leisure facilities.

Chinan District (池南区｜formerly Manjiang Town 漫江镇)

Administration: Chinan serves as the southern gateway and a small border town, maintaining traditional local culture.

Tourism: The South Slope Scenic Area (5A) features Tianchi South, Yalu River Grand Canyon (鸭绿江大峡谷), Wangtian’e Scenic Area (望天鹅风景区), and Nengyin Ancient City (讷殷古城), offering pristine landscapes and cultural heritage for travelers seeking off-the-beaten-path experiences.

Antu County (安图县) – Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture
