China Snow Town (中国雪乡), formerly known as Shuangfeng Forest Farm (双峰林场), is located in Hailin (海林), Mudanjiang (牡丹江), Heilongjiang Province (黑龙江省). As one of China’s most famous winter destinations, it has an exceptionally long snow season lasting up to seven months, with deep natural snowfall that can reach around two meters in some areas. Its distinctive “snow mushrooms,” “snow cakes,” wooden houses, red lanterns, and fairy-tale village scenery have earned it a reputation as a real-life winter wonderland.
Why Visit China Snow Town?
Xueyun Street: Xueyun Street (雪韵大街) is the lively heart of China Snow Town, lined with traditional wooden houses buried under thick layers of snow and illuminated by red lanterns after dark. It is the best place to experience the atmosphere of the snow village, enjoy local snacks, shop for regional products, and photograph classic winter street scenes.
Dream Home Scenic Area: Dream Home Scenic Area (梦幻家园) is one of the most iconic photography spots in Snow Town, famous for beautifully shaped snow mushrooms, elevated panoramic viewpoints, ice lanterns, and traditional Northeastern village scenery. The area is especially photogenic around sunset and after the lanterns are lit.
Yangcao Mountain: Yangcao Mountain (羊草山) rises between China Snow Town and Snow Valley (雪谷) and is well known for sunrise viewing, rime-covered forests, broad snowfields, and mountain panoramas. Winter trekking across the mountain is one of the most memorable outdoor experiences in the region.
Ice and Snow Gallery: Ice and Snow Gallery (冰雪画廊) along the Yaxue Highway features dense rime forests, snow-covered pine trees, ice formations, and scenic winter woodland. It is particularly popular with photographers and visitors interested in exploring natural snow landscapes beyond the main village.
Erlanghe Village: Erlanghe Village (二浪河) offers a quieter alternative to the busier central area of China Snow Town. Deep snow, traditional wooden cabins, forest landscapes, and a slower rural atmosphere make it attractive for travelers seeking a more peaceful Northeastern winter experience.

Winter Culture: Evenings in China Snow Town are lively with bonfire parties, Yangko dances, folk performances, and traditional Errenzhuan (二人转) shows. These activities add a strong cultural atmosphere to the snow experience and provide a glimpse into winter traditions in Northeast China.
Culture & Cuisine
Accommodation: Staying in a traditional kang-heated guesthouse (火炕民宿) is one of the most distinctive experiences in China Snow Town. Wooden cabins and heated brick beds reflect the traditional way of keeping warm during the severe winters of Heilongjiang and offer visitors a more authentic Northeastern lifestyle experience.
Cuisine: Popular local specialties include Iron-Pot Stew (铁锅炖), stewed goose, chicken and ribs, Frozen Pears (冻梨), Frozen Persimmons (冻柿子), Sticky Bean Buns (粘豆包), and Sauerkraut Pork Hot Pot (酸菜白肉锅). These hearty dishes and winter snacks are closely connected with the cold climate and traditional food culture of Northeast China.
