Xingtai Attractions

Xingtai (邢台市) is one of southern Hebei's most diverse but still relatively underexplored destinations. Its tourism landscape stretches from the Taihang Mountains in the west to one of northern China's outstanding karst cave systems, ancient stone villages, waterfalls, lakes and forest valleys, while the urban center preserves a long historical legacy through Qingfeng Tower, Kaiyuan Temple, Xingtai Museum and the old-city cultural area. Farther east, agricultural tourism, traditional industries, porcelain, cashmere and wine culture create a completely different side of the city.

For first-time visitors, Xingtai can be understood through three major tourism zones. Western Xingtai, especially Xindu District, has the greatest concentration of mountain scenery, including Xingtai Grand Canyon, Jiulong Gorge, Yunmeng Mountain, Zijin Mountain, Tianti Mountain and the historic Yingtan Ancient Village. Lincheng and Neiqiu are strongest for caves, lakes, geology, traditional medicine and Xing white porcelain, while central Xingtai and the eastern counties emphasize ancient-city culture, museums, agriculture, industry and traditional crafts.

A rating update is important for current travel content. Hebei's Department of Culture and Tourism published its latest provincial A-rated tourist attraction directory on January 30, 2026. Several older Xingtai tourism articles therefore contain outdated counts or ratings. For example, Qishan Lake was officially upgraded to 4A in 2022, Qinghe Cashmere Town became a 4A attraction in 2024, and Nikeng Wine Culture Tourism Industrial Park received 4A status in December 2025.

The following ranking is designed for first-time travelers and considers natural uniqueness, historical importance, visitor experience and how strongly each attraction represents Xingtai. It is not an official government ranking.

Kongshan Baiyun Cave

Kongshan Baiyun Cave (崆山白云洞) in Lincheng County is one of Xingtai's most recognizable attractions. Formed in Middle Cambrian limestone hundreds of millions of years ago, the cave maintains a temperature of around 17°C throughout the year, making it particularly attractive in summer. The developed cave system contains five major chambers traditionally named the Human World, Heaven, Hell, Dragon Palace and Maze, with more than 200 identified cave formations along the visitor route. It is a National 4A Tourist Attraction, national scenic area and national geopark.

For international visitors interested in geology, Kongshan Baiyun Cave is arguably Xingtai's most distinctive single natural attraction because it provides a completely different experience from the open mountain landscapes of the Taihang range.

Xingtai Grand Canyon

Xingtai Grand Canyon (邢台大峡谷) lies in the western Taihang Mountains of Xindu District. Its landscape is characterized by steep red-brown rock walls, narrow gorges, cliffs, streams and dramatic elevation changes. The canyon system consists of numerous individual valleys, producing one of the most impressive geological landscapes around Xingtai.

It is particularly suitable for travelers who enjoy hiking, mountain photography and landforms rather than conventional sightseeing. Together with Jiulong Gorge, Yunmeng Mountain and Tianhe Mountain, it forms the natural core of western Xingtai tourism.

Jiulong Gorge

Jiulong Gorge (九龙峡) is a National 4A attraction in Xindu District and is especially known for waterfalls and seasonal landscapes. Spring brings extensive peach blossoms to the surrounding Taihang countryside, while autumn transforms the mountains into a mixture of red, orange and yellow foliage.

The Xingtai agricultural and meteorological authorities continue to identify Jiulong Gorge, Yunmeng Mountain and Tianhe Mountain in Xindu District as three of the city's principal autumn foliage destinations.

Tianhe Mountain

Tianhe Mountain (天河山) is widely promoted under the tourism brand “China's Love Mountain,” drawing on local associations with the Cowherd and Weaver Girl legend. Mountain valleys, streams, waterfalls and forest scenery make it suitable for outdoor recreation, while love-themed attractions have given the area a distinctive cultural identity.

For current website content, Tianhe Mountain should be listed simply as a major mountain scenic area rather than automatically carrying forward older A-rating information. It is located in Xindu District, not Xiangdu District, as some older online descriptions incorrectly state. Current Xingtai government information continues to group Tianhe with Yunmeng Mountain and Jiulong Gorge among Xindu's major mountain tourism areas.

Yunmeng Mountain

Yunmeng Mountain (云梦山) is another major Xindu mountain destination, sometimes nicknamed the “Jiuzhaigou of the North” in domestic tourism marketing because of its combination of waterfalls, pools, streams, cliffs and forested valleys.

Rather than offering broad panoramic mountain landscapes alone, Yunmeng Mountain's appeal comes from following water through narrow valleys and interconnected pools. It is particularly attractive from late spring through early autumn and during the autumn foliage season. It is listed as a National 4A Tourist Attraction in the current provincial tourism system.

Bianque Temple

Located in Neiqiu County, Bianque Temple (扁鹊庙) is one of China's most important heritage sites associated with Bian Que, the legendary physician traditionally regarded as an early master of Chinese medicine.

The historic temple complex combines religious architecture, ancient trees, stone inscriptions and traditional Chinese medical culture. For international visitors interested in Chinese medicine, it provides a valuable cultural counterpart to Xingtai's predominantly natural mountain attractions. The site is a National 4A Tourist Attraction.

Xing Kiln Cultural Tourism Area

Xing Kiln Cultural Tourism Area (邢窑文化旅游区) in Neiqiu introduces visitors to one of the most important chapters in the history of Chinese ceramics. During the Sui and Tang dynasties, Xing kilns became famous for high-quality white porcelain, helping establish the historical expression “southern celadon and northern white porcelain.”

The tourism area combines archaeological heritage, museum collections and ceramic culture and is officially rated National 4A. The Xing Kiln Museum is particularly worthwhile for travelers interested in archaeology, ceramics, craftsmanship and the development of Chinese porcelain.

Yingtan Ancient Village

Yingtan Ancient Village (英谈古寨) in Xindu District preserves one of Xingtai's most atmospheric traditional settlements. The village traces its main architectural development to the Ming period and contains dozens of historic courtyards and extensive red-stone architecture built into the Taihang Mountain landscape.

Xingtai's government describes Yingtan as having more than 600 years of history and 67 historic courtyards, and the village has recently been developed with cultural performances, homestays and immersive visitor experiences while retaining its distinctive stone-built appearance.

Xingtai Ancient City Cultural Area

For urban history, the strongest cluster is in Xiangdu District, where Qingfeng Tower, Kaiyuan Temple, Xingtai Museum and the traditional old-city streets are concentrated within a relatively compact area.

Xingtai municipal planning specifically treats Kaiyuan Temple, Qingfeng Tower and the surrounding ancient-city area in Xiangdu District as central components of the city's historic cultural landscape. The city has also been improving the connections among the museum, ancient temple, traditional streets and old-city heritage sites.

This area is the best choice for travelers who want to understand Xingtai's long urban history without making a day trip into the Taihang Mountains.

Best Attractions by Travel Interest

For nature and hiking, western Xingtai is the clear priority. Xingtai Grand Canyon, Jiulong Gorge, Yunmeng Mountain, Tianhe Mountain, Zijin Mountain and Tianti Mountain can easily occupy several days, but they are geographically spread across the Taihang foothills rather than forming a single walkable scenic zone.

For history and traditional culture, combine Xingtai Museum, Qingfeng Tower and Kaiyuan Temple in the city with Bianque Temple and the Xing Kiln Cultural Tourism Area in Neiqiu. Xingtai's government has been strengthening the historic-city cultural corridor around Qingfeng Tower, Kaiyuan Temple and the museum as part of its wider heritage development.

For ancient villages and photography, Yingtan Ancient Village is the strongest choice, while Wangnao provides another example of traditional Taihang stone architecture. Families can consider Nanhe Agriculture Carnival, while travelers interested in China's modern industries may find Delong Steel Culture Park, Qinghe Cashmere Town and Nikeng Wine Culture Tourism Industrial Park unusually distinctive.
