What makes shopping in Qiandongnan special is the products you can buy there. Qiandongnan is a place scattered many Miao and Dong villages. The best souvenirs you can buy are these local products with strong ethnic features, such as batik, brocade and cross-stitch, etc. They are exquisite. 

What to Buy in Qiandongnan

Batik products(蜡染)

Batik is a dyeing form created by ethnic minorities in Guizhou, with various patterns, such as flowers, fish, birds and mountains. Heated wax is used to make these beautiful works of art. Batik cloth is widely spread among Miao, Buyi, Shui and Gejia minorities. Generally speaking, Guizhou batik cloth is blue and white, except for Anshun and Pu'an areas, where red, yellow, blue may also be added. With unique ethnic style and charm, Guizhou batik has won more and more favor at home and abroad. 

Dong Brocade(侗帛)

Brocade is one of the folk arts and crafts of Dong minority in Guizhou province.  Brocade is generally made into brocade belt used for clothing decoration. There are a variety of geometric patterns woven on the belt, but also dragon and Phoenix, insect and fish, auspicious words and so on, with strong color, bright and dazzling. There are also brocade belts woven in black and white two kind of yarns, precise and exquisite, plain and neat, simple and elegant. 

Cross-stitch Work(挑花)

Miao women are best at traditional crafts, usually used on head scarf, head cap and clothes. The designs of these crafts are made up of small cross, "米" character(米字), flower mission(团花), small dotted flower and oblique line. it often takes hot pink as keynote, dotted with white and green, or uses black as bottom color and draws the outline with strong red and white threads, then fills with deep red, peach and yellow green threads. The drawing is compact and full, and has a high decorative effect.

Moutai(茅台)

Maotai is the most well-known spirit in China, originated from Guizhou. From businessmen to state leaders, everyone appreciates its unique taste. It is made from jowar and barley, tasting pure, sweet and refreshing. Maotai is reputed to be three world famous wines with Usquebaugh of Scotland and Aquavit of France. No trip to Guizhou is complete without a taste of Moutai.

Xiang(fragrant) Pig(香猪) in Congjiang

Congjiang Xiang pig is originated in Congjiang county of Guizhou, its adjacent Rongjiang, Sandu, Libo aas well as Huanjiang in Guangxi also have a small amount of distribution. Xiang pig is a rare and excellent local Miniature pig breeds, which was listed as one of the eight local pig breeds in China in 1980. Xiang pig is famous for its short stature, tender meat, gene homozygous, pure and pollution free.

Where to Buy in Qiandongnan

There are many shops in the Scenic Areas of Qiandongnan, especially Xijiang Qianhu Miao Village, selling local specialties and ethnic handicrafts. In addition to buying in the Miao villages, there is a spontaneous crafts market near Yingpanpo ethnic hotel on Zhoufu road in Kaili city(凯里市州府路的营盘坡民族宾馆附近). Sellers are basically Miao People, and there are a variety of handcrafts with reasonable price.
