    Bijie is in mountainous area, and there are mountains including Wumen mountain in the west, Dalou mountain in the north and Laowang mountain in the southwest. Most areas in Bijie enjoy subtropical humid climate, with 1231 hours of annual average sunshine, annual average temperature of 13.09℃, annual rainfall of 1129.04 mm, frost-free period of 266 days and 38.75% of forest coverage. Bijie has no severe cold in winter, no intense heat in summer, pleasant climate. With large elevation difference, vertical climate change in Bijie is particularly obvious. The temperature is different up in the mountain and on the mountain foot, as well as in the highland and in the basin. 

    Weather Features in Bijie

    Most parts in Bijie belong to subtropical humid monsoon climate, so monsoon climate is relatively obvious, rainfall is relatively abundant(mainly from May to September), and three-dimensional climate is prominent. Perennial mean temperature(1951-1998) of various district and counties in Bijie city was between 10℃-15℃, the highest is in Jinsha County and the lowest in Weining County; The annual sunshine duration was between 1096-1769 hours, and the longest sunshine duration was in Weining county; Frost-free period was 245-290 days, the longest was in Jinsha and Zhijin counties; The average annual rainfall was 849-1399 mm, among them, Zhijin county had the most rainfall, and Hezhang county was least.

    The difference in elevation is relatively large, and the vertical climate change is particularly obvious. The temperature is different up in the mountain and on the mountain foot, as well as in the highland and in the basin. These weather features are conducive to the growth of a variety of plants and animals. In 2010, annual average temperature in Bijie was 12℃-15.4℃, annual average sunshine hours of 995.2-1631.6 hours, and average annual rainfall in the range of 727.3-1193.2 mm.

    Tips for Bijie Climate

    Four Seasons of Bijie

    Enjoying a subtropical humid climate, Bijie has no severe cold in winter, no intense heat in summer, high forest coverage, pleasant climate, relatively large elevation difference and obvious vertical climate change.

    • Spring(March-May): Spring is the dry season, with little rainfall and cool climate, but large temperature difference between morning and evening.
    • Summer(June-August): The temperature at this time remains around 20℃, relatively cool. Summer is the hottest season and wettest season in the year. The peak of temperature and rainfall often occurs in July.
    • Autumn(September-November): Temperatures and precipitation decrease as the months drag on, with November already close to local winter temperature.
    • Winter(December-February): The temperature in winter won't too low, usually above 0℃, therefore, there will not be a large area of icing. Besides, winter has the least rainfall.

    Best Time to Visit

    The best travel time is form early spring to late autumn, when you can avoid the cold winter in the mountain areas, and feast your eyes on the beauty of the mountains.

    Packing Tips

    1. Most scenic spots in Bijie are in mountainous areas. When you are traveling, you should wear comfortable shoes like sneakers. Try not to wear leather shoes and high-heeled shoes, which are not inconvenient to walk on the mountain roads.

    2. Bijie is affected by the monsoon, the cold and warm air flow frequent intersect. So umbrella is the necessity for travel.

    3. Bijie is in mountainous area with obvious vertical climate change. The temperature difference between morning and evening is relatively large and the temperature in the morning and evening is relatively cool. Be sure to bring coats.

    Peak Seasons

    Try to avoid the Chinese peak holidays when planning your Bijie tour. The most crowded holidays are Spring Festival(usually in late Jan. or early Feb.), International Labor Day(May 1-3) and National Day(Golden week, Oct. 1-7). The advantage of being in China at this time is that you have the opportunity to experience the significance of these celebrations in Chinese culture closely.
