Hezhou Administrative Divisions

Hezhou (贺州) is located in northeastern Guangxi (广西), at the junction of Guangxi, Guangdong, and Hunan provinces, covering a total area of about 11,752 square kilometers. As a prefecture-level city, Hezhou administers two districts, two counties, and one Yao Autonomous County, including Babu District, Pinggui District, Zhaoping County, Zhongshan County, and Fuchuan Yao Autonomous County.

The city has a complete administrative structure consisting of 4 subdistrict offices, 47 towns, 5 ordinary townships, and 5 ethnic townships, with more than 700 villages and communities. Located between the Pearl River Delta and inland Guangxi, Hezhou has become an important regional tourism destination featuring ancient towns, karst landscapes, forest recreation, hot springs, tea culture, rural experiences, and ethnic minority traditions.

The five county-level regions have developed different tourism identities. Babu District (八步区) | Urban Center, Historical Culture and Wellness Tourism

Administrative Overview

Babu District is the central urban area of Hezhou and the location of the municipal government. Covering approximately 3,666 square kilometers, it is the largest district in the city and serves as the commercial, transportation, and tourism service center.

Babu District administers three subdistricts, including Babu Subdistrict, Chengdong Subdistrict, and Jiangnan Subdistrict, as well as 12 towns: Hejie, Butou, Liantang, Daning, Nanxiang, Guiling, Kaishan, Lisong, Xindu, Lingfeng, Renyi, and Pumen.

The district also includes Huangdong Yao Ethnic Township, reflecting the multicultural background of Hezhou.

Babu District combines urban tourism, historical heritage, ecological landscapes, and wellness experiences.

Linhe Ancient City (临贺故城) is one of the most important historical attractions in Hezhou. With more than two thousand years of history, it preserves ancient streets, cultural relics, and traditional architecture, making it an excellent destination for history exploration and study tours.

The district also features Hakka cultural resources, including traditional courtyards, ancestral halls, folk customs, and local cuisine. These resources reflect the migration history and cultural integration of Hakka communities in eastern Guangxi.

For nature and wellness tourism, Xixi Forest Hot Spring Resort (西溪森林温泉度假村) combines forest landscapes, natural hot springs, countryside accommodation, and leisure facilities. It is especially suitable for winter vacations, family holidays, and long-stay wellness travel.

Babu is also known for agricultural tourism and local products, including Nanxiang duck, Kaishan white tea, Xindu red melon seeds, Sanhua plum orchards, and Hejie agricultural sightseeing areas.

Administrative Overview

Pinggui District is located close to the urban center and is the main ecological tourism area of Hezhou.

The district includes Xiwan Subdistrict, seven towns including Huangtian, Etang, Shatian, Gonghui, Shuikou, Wanggao, and Yangtou, and Daping Yao Ethnic Township.

Gupo Mountain National Forest Park (姑婆山国家森林公园)

Gupo Mountain is one of the most representative natural landscapes in eastern Guangxi. The area features dense forests, waterfalls, tea gardens, mountain streams, and rich biodiversity. Jade Stone Forest Scenic Area (玉石林)

Shibashui Ecological Scenic Area (十八水原生态景区)

Zhaoping County (昭平县) | Huangyao Ancient Town, Tea Culture and Ecological Tourism

Administrative Overview

Zhaoping County is one of the most important cultural tourism areas in Hezhou.

The county administers nine towns: Zhaoping, Wenzhu, Huangyao, Fuluo, Beituo, Majiang, Wujian, Zouma, and Zhangmulin.

It also includes three townships: Xianhui Yao Township, Fenghuang Township, and Muge Township.

Zhaoping County is best known for Huangyao Ancient Town (黄姚古镇), the only national 5A scenic area in Hezhou and the city's most famous tourism landmark.

Huangyao Ancient Town (黄姚古镇)

With nearly one thousand years of history, Huangyao preserves hundreds of traditional Ming and Qing dynasty buildings. Ancient streets, stone bridges, temples, ancestral halls, and riverside landscapes create a classic southern Chinese ancient town atmosphere.

The town is also famous for Huangyao fermented black bean culture, traditional folk performances, and local handicrafts, making it ideal for cultural tourism, photography, and slow travel.

Tea Culture and Ecological Tourism

Zhaoping is also an important tea tourism destination. Nanshan Tea Sea (南山茶海) offers extensive tea plantations where visitors can experience tea picking, tea processing, and tea culture activities.

Zhongshan County focuses on rural tourism, cultural heritage, and agricultural experiences.

The county administers 10 towns: Zhongshan, Huilong, Shilong, Fengxiang, Tonggu, Shanhu, Gong'an, Yantang, Qingtang, and Honghua.

It also includes Huashan Yao Ethnic Township and Liang'an Yao Ethnic Township.

The county administers nine towns: Fuyang, Chengbei, Chaodong, Mailing, Gegen, Fuli, Lianshan, Baisha, and Gucheng.

It also includes three Yao ethnic townships: Youmu Yao Township, Shijia Yao Township, and Xinhua Yao Township.

The county also features unique rural destinations such as painted Yao villages, Fuxi Ancient Village, and Hutou Colorful Village, together with orange orchards and agricultural tourism routes.
