  • Fangchenggang Administrative Divisions

Fangchenggang is a prefecture-level city under the administration of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The city consists of two municipal districts, one county-level city and one county: Gangkou District, Fangcheng District, Dongxing City and Shangsi County. The entire city includes 7 subdistricts, 17 towns and 6 townships, including ethnic minority townships.

Located on the southwestern coast of Guangxi and bordering Vietnam, Fangchenggang has developed a distinctive geographical structure combining coastal urban areas, the Jiangshan Peninsula, Qisha Peninsula, Jing ethnic border islands and the Shiwandashan mountain region. Different administrative areas also represent different tourism themes: coastal leisure is concentrated in Gangkou District and Fangcheng District’s Jiangshan area, Jing ethnic culture and border tourism are centered in Dongxing City, while forest ecology and hot spring tourism are mainly located in Shangsi County.

Due to the large distances between different tourism areas, visitors planning long-distance trips are recommended to use self-driving or private transportation. The administrative division provides a clear framework for designing travel routes covering beaches, border culture, fishing villages, ethnic villages and mountain landscapes.

Overview of Four County-Level Administrative Areas and Tourism Resources

Gangkou District|Urban Center and Transportation Hub

    Administrative Overview

Gangkou District is the political, economic and transportation center of Fangchenggang. It is located around West Bay and hosts important urban facilities including the municipal government area and Fangchenggang North Railway Station.

The district administers four subdistricts and two towns, including Yuzhouping Subdistrict, Baishawan Subdistrict, Shatanjiang Subdistrict, Wangfu Subdistrict, Qisha Town and Guangpo Town.

    Tourism Resources and Travel Positioning

Gangkou District focuses on urban coastal leisure, fishing culture and transportation connections. The main tourism resources include West Bay Scenic Area, Xiangren Mountain Park, Beibu Gulf Marine Culture Park, Leshan Ancient Fishing Village, Qisha Fishing Port and Shanxin Beach.

Among them, Guangpo Town is known for Leshan Ancient Fishing Village, where visitors can experience traditional fishing lifestyles, tidal landscapes and coastal village culture. Qisha Town is an important seafood and fishing port area, famous for seafood markets and coastal scenery.

As the main arrival and transfer area, Gangkou District is usually the first stop for visitors entering Fangchenggang and an important accommodation base for short trips.

Fangcheng District|Core Area Combining Mountains and Sea

    Administrative Overview

Fangcheng District is one of the most important tourism areas in Fangchenggang, located between the Beibu Gulf coast and the southern foothills of Shiwandashan Mountains. It combines coastal scenery, mountain ecology and border culture.

The district administers three subdistricts, eight towns and two townships. The administrative units include Shuiying Subdistrict, Zhuhe Subdistrict, Wenchang Subdistrict, Jiangshan Town, Maoling Town, Huashi Town, Nasuo Town, Dalu Town, Naliang Town, Dongzhong Town, Fulong Town, Tanying Township and Shiwanshan Yao Township.

    Tourism Resources and Travel Positioning

Fangcheng District is the core destination for Fangchenggang’s coastal tourism. Its most famous attractions are located on Jiangshan Peninsula, including:

    White Wave Beach (白浪滩),
    Strange Stone Beach (怪石滩),
    White Sand Bay (白沙湾),
    Bailong Ancient Fort (白龙古炮台).

The district also contains ecological and cultural attractions such as the Golden Camellia protection area in Nasuo Town, Naliang Ancient Town, Dongzhong border cultural area and Shiwanshan Yao ethnic mountain resources.

With both coastal and mountain resources, Fangcheng District is the ideal area for creating a “mountain-sea combined” tourism experience.

Dongxing City|China-Vietnam Border Gateway and Jing Ethnic Cultural Center

    Administrative Overview

Dongxing is a county-level city located at the southwestern end of China’s mainland coastline. It faces Vietnam’s Mong Cai City across the Beilun River and is one of China’s most important border tourism destinations.

Dongxing City administers three towns: Dongxing Town, Jiangping Town and Malu Town.

    Tourism Resources and Travel Positioning

Dongxing represents Fangchenggang’s unique combination of border culture, international exchange and Jing ethnic traditions.

    Major attractions include:

    Dongxing Border Gate Scenic Area,
    China-Vietnam Friendship Bridge,
    Qing Dynasty Boundary Marker No.5,
    Jing Island Scenic Area,
    Wanwei Golden Beach,
Zhushan Scenic Area and Boundary Marker No.1.

Jiangping Town is the center of Jing ethnic culture and includes the famous Jing ethnic islands. Visitors can experience traditional fishing culture, coastal villages, seafood cuisine and ethnic festivals.

Dongxing Town focuses on border tourism and international trade, while Malu Town offers rural landscapes and mountain scenery.

Shangsi County|Shiwandashan Forest Ecology and Wellness Destination

    Administrative Overview

Shangsi County is located north of Fangchenggang, on the northern side of Shiwandashan Mountains. Compared with the coastal areas, Shangsi has a cooler mountain climate, larger temperature differences and richer forest resources.

The county administers four towns and four townships, including Siyang Town, Zaimiao Town, Jiao’an Town, Hualan Town, Nanping Yao Township, Pingfu Township, Naqin Township and Gongzheng Township.

    Tourism Resources and Travel Positioning

Shangsi focuses on forest ecology, outdoor adventure and wellness tourism.

Shangsi is especially suitable for summer escapes, forest hiking, ecological study tours and wellness holidays.

Administrative Divisions and Tourism Planning Connections

    Coastal Tourism Corridor

The main coastal tourism route connects:

Gangkou District → Fangcheng District Jiangshan Town → Dongxing City Jiangping Town

This corridor includes West Bay, Jiangshan Peninsula beaches, Jing ethnic islands and border coastal scenery. It is the classic Fangchenggang seaside travel route.

    Mountain-Sea Combination Route

Visitors can combine coastal attractions with inland mountains:

Gangkou / Fangcheng / Dongxing coastal areas → Shangsi Shiwandashan

This route creates a complete experience of beaches, forests, hot springs and ecological landscapes.

    Border Culture Route

    The border tourism corridor includes:

Dongxing Border Gate → Jiangping Jing Ethnic Area → Fangcheng District Dongzhong Town and Naliang Town

This route is suitable for border culture research, photography tours and international study programs.

    Transportation and Travel Planning Characteristics

Fangchenggang’s tourism resources are geographically distributed over a large area. Major attractions have convenient road access, but many villages and small scenic spots have limited public transportation.

For deep exploration, visitors are advised to choose:

    Self-driving;

    Private charter vehicles;

    Organized tourism buses.

Public transportation mainly serves urban areas and major attractions, while remote fishing villages and mountain areas require additional transportation arrangements.
