  • Zhaoqing Accommodation

Zhaoqing (肇庆) is a prefecture-level city in western Guangdong Province and the largest mainland city in the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area by land area. Contrary to the original description, it is not a directly administered city without districts or counties. Zhaoqing comprises Duanzhou District (端州区), Dinghu District (鼎湖区), Gaoyao District (高要区), Guangning County (广宁县), Deqing County (德庆县), Fengkai County (封开县), Huaiji County (怀集县) and the county-level Sihui City (四会市).

Accommodation is distributed across eight practical tourism areas: the historic city and Xinghu Lake in Duanzhou, the forest and transport hub around Dinghu, the Dragon Mother cultural area in Deqing, the bamboo landscapes of Guangning, the jade and industrial districts of Sihui, the rural family attractions of Gaoyao, the river and karst landscapes of Fengkai, and the mountain and ethnic communities of Huaiji.

For most first-time visitors, Duanzhou is the most convenient base. Travellers focusing on Dinghu Mountain can stay in Dinghu, while visitors exploring the western counties should stay locally rather than travelling back to central Zhaoqing each evening. Distances between Duanzhou, Deqing, Fengkai, Huaiji and Guangning are considerable, making a multi-base itinerary more practical than one long daily commute.

    Choosing the Right Area

Accommodation Area Main Attractions Recommended Accommodation Style Best Suited To
Duanzhou District Seven Star Crags, Xinghu Lake, Ancient City Wall and Yuejiang Tower Upscale hotels, branded mid-range hotels and lakefront homestays First-time visitors, couples, families and business travellers
Dinghu District Dinghu Mountain, Qingyun Temple, Yanzhou Island and Zhaoqing East Station Resort-style hotels, mountain guesthouses and modern business hotels Hiking, ecological holidays and railway travellers
Deqing County Dragon Mother Temple, Deqing Academy and rural villages County-town hotels, temple-area guesthouses and countryside homestays Pilgrimage, cultural tours and self-driving holidays
Guangning County Suijiang Bamboo Sea and bamboo villages Bamboo-themed homestays and county-town hotels Forest holidays, photographers and quiet rural travel
Sihui City Strange Stone River, Jade Expo City and Dawang High-Tech Zone Business hotels, urban chain hotels and rural resorts Jade purchasing, business trips and family recreation
Gaoyao District Licha Bagua Village, Cat’s Paw Valley and countryside attractions Family homestays, farm stays and camping accommodation Families, village tours and rural weekends
Fengkai County Hejiang Greenway Gallery, Longshan caves and ancient villages County-town hotels, riverside guesthouses and rural homestays Self-driving, cycling and geological tours
Huaiji County Qiaotou karst region and Xiashuai Ethnic Township County-town business hotels and limited rural guesthouses Ethnic culture, mountain scenery and study groups

Duanzhou District: The Best Base for First-Time Visitors

Duanzhou contains Zhaoqing’s largest and most varied accommodation supply. Visitors can choose from established local hotels, international or national brands, modern mid-range properties, apartment-style accommodation and privately operated homestays around Xinghu Lake.

The district is the best choice for travellers visiting Seven Star Crags Scenic Area (七星岩景区), Zhaoqing Ancient City Wall (肇庆古城墙), Piyun Tower (披云楼), Yuejiang Tower (阅江楼), Mei’an Temple (梅庵) and the Xinghu waterfront. Restaurants, shopping centres, urban buses and ride-hailing services are also more readily available here than in the outer counties.

    Xinghu Archway and Central Duanzhou

The area around Xinghu Archway Square (星湖牌坊广场) and Duanzhou’s central commercial streets provides the most convenient combination of sightseeing, restaurants and evening activity.

Zhaoqing Star Lake Hotel (肇庆星湖大酒店) continues to appear in current 2026 accommodation listings and is located close to Xinghu Archway Square. Its central position is more important for tourists than claims about a particular official star classification, which can differ between hotel platforms and tourism-rating systems.

This area is suitable for visitors who want to walk beside Xinghu Lake in the evening, watch the musical fountain when it is operating, explore city-centre restaurants and use taxis for short transfers to the ancient city.

Seven Star Crags East Gate and Xinghu Avenue

The eastern side of Seven Star Crags has developed a strong cluster of newer branded hotels, shopping centres and apartment-style accommodation.

Current listings include Atour Hotel Zhaoqing Qixingyan (肇庆七星岩亚朵酒店) and JI Hotel Zhaoqing Seven Star Crags East Gate Plaza Hengyu City (全季酒店·肇庆七星岩东门广场恒裕城店). Other current options include Lavande properties around Yihua Plaza and the Dinghu–East Station corridor. Exact English names can vary between reservation platforms.

This part of Duanzhou is better suited to travellers who prefer newer rooms, shopping-centre dining, easier vehicle access and modern hotel facilities. It may require a short taxi ride to the ancient city wall and older urban neighbourhoods.

Seven Star Crags Lakefront and Yanqian Peninsula

The Yanqian Peninsula (岩前半岛) and surrounding Xinghu lakefront contain one of Zhaoqing’s most distinctive homestay clusters.

Current reservation platforms list numerous lakefront properties near Yanqian Village, including design-led guesthouses, converted villas and Song-culture-themed homestays. Examples currently appearing in listings include Xinghu Lanyue Song Culture Homestay (星湖揽月宋文化民宿), Yifang Xinghu Guesthouse (一方星湖美宿) and other privately operated lake-view properties.

The strongest advantage is atmosphere rather than transport efficiency. Guests can enjoy lake walks, cafés and sunrise or evening views, but should check whether the room faces the lake, whether vehicles can reach the entrance and whether luggage must be carried through narrow village lanes.

Homestays in this area are best suited to couples, photographers and travellers planning a slower holiday. Families, senior travellers and groups should confirm lift access, sound insulation, breakfast arrangements and parking before booking.

    Ancient City Wall Area

Accommodation around the Zhaoqing Ancient City Wall, Renmin Road and the older commercial centre is convenient for heritage walks.

Visitors can reach Piyun Tower, traditional streets, local restaurants and parts of the old city without repeatedly using a vehicle. This area is suitable for history enthusiasts and travellers seeking a more local urban atmosphere.

Buildings and hotel rooms in the old centre can be older and smaller than properties around Xinghu Avenue. Guests should prioritise recent renovation, reliable air conditioning, sound insulation and legal parking rather than selecting a property only because it appears close to the wall on a map.

    Upscale International-Brand Accommodation

Current 2026 listings also show internationally branded upscale choices such as Sheraton Zhaoqing Dinghu (肇庆喜来登酒店) and Wyndham Grand Zhaoqing Downtown (肇庆七星岩温德姆至尊酒店). The Sheraton is associated with the Dinghu and new-district area rather than the historic Duanzhou centre, while the Wyndham Grand provides another upscale option closer to the Seven Star Crags tourism zone.

These properties are more suitable for guests prioritising larger rooms, full-service dining, meetings, family facilities and international-brand standards. Their locations should still be checked against the planned itinerary, because a higher hotel category does not always mean easier walking access to the ancient city.

Dinghu District: Forest Holidays and Modern Transport Connections

Dinghu is the best accommodation area for travellers whose main purpose is visiting Dinghu Mountain Scenic Area (鼎湖山景区). The district also serves Zhaoqing East Railway Station (肇庆东站), Dinghushan East Railway Station (鼎湖山东站), Zhaoqing New District and the Xijiang riverside.

Accommodation is divided between mountain-area guesthouses, hotels around Dinghu’s urban centre, properties near shopping complexes and higher-end hotels in the new district.

    Staying Near Dinghu Mountain

Guesthouses near the entrance to Dinghu Mountain are convenient for visitors who want to begin hiking early, avoid travelling from Duanzhou and spend a quiet evening near the forest.

Current listings show a substantial selection of small inns, villas and modern guesthouses around the Dinghu Mountain tourism area. The supply includes mountain-view homestays, apartment-style rooms and properties near Dinghu Wanda Plaza.

Guests should check the actual distance from the scenic-area gate. A property using “Dinghu Mountain” in its name may still require a taxi or vehicle transfer.

Claims that a hotel provides natural hot springs should be verified carefully. Dinghu Mountain is primarily a forest and ecological destination, and visitors should not assume that every “wellness” or “resort” hotel includes genuine natural hot-spring water.

    Staying Near Zhaoqing East Station

The area around Zhaoqing East Railway Station and Dinghushan East Railway Station is suitable for travellers arriving by high-speed rail or continuing toward Guangzhou, Foshan or Guangxi.

Modern branded hotels, business accommodation and apartment-style rooms are available along the transport and commercial corridor. This area provides easier access to railway services but is less atmospheric than Xinghu Lake or the forest entrance.

It is best suited to business travellers, short overnight stays and visitors with an early train.

    Yanzhou Island

Yanzhou Island (砚洲岛) offers a rural river-island environment rather than a conventional hotel district.

Accommodation and activity operators on the island can change, and ferry schedules may be affected by weather or river conditions. Travellers should confirm the property’s current operation, ferry access, meal arrangements and emergency transport before making a reservation.

An island stay is suitable for cycling, countryside recreation and family activities, but it is less practical for travellers planning to visit several urban attractions during the same day.

Deqing County: Dragon Mother Culture and Rural Heritage

Deqing is most suitable for visitors exploring Yuecheng Dragon Mother Temple (悦城龙母祖庙), Deqing Academy (德庆学宫), Jinlin Water Village (金林水乡) and the county’s citrus-growing countryside.

The safest and most convenient accommodation base is Deqing County town, where business hotels, restaurants, shops and transport services are concentrated. Staying in the county town also provides flexibility if rural guesthouses or attractions change their operating arrangements.

Accommodation Near the Dragon Mother Temple

Small hotels and guesthouses can be found in and around Yuecheng Town, but their facilities and availability vary.

During major Dragon Mother festival periods, rooms near the temple can sell out well in advance. Visitors who value reliable facilities should stay in Deqing County town and travel to Yuecheng early in the morning.

Temple-area accommodation is most suitable for pilgrims and cultural groups attending early ceremonies. Guests should confirm noise levels, parking, breakfast and late check-in arrangements before booking.

    Jinlin Water Village

Countryside homestays around Jinlin Water Village provide a slower experience based on ancestral architecture, rural food and village life.

These properties are suitable for photographers and small groups, but facilities may be simpler than in county-town hotels. Visitors should verify whether the room has a private bathroom, air conditioning, reliable hot water and vehicle access.

    Panlong Gorge

Older travel materials frequently promote resort hotels, flower-themed rooms, rafting and hot springs at Panlong Gorge (盘龙峡). Current operation of individual attractions, accommodation facilities and recreational programmes should be confirmed directly before planning an overnight stay.

Travellers should not book a hotel solely because an old advertisement claims that it includes repeated scenic-area entry, active rafting routes or functioning hot-spring facilities.

    Guangning County: Bamboo Forest Homestays

Guangning is a quiet accommodation destination centred on the Suijiang Bamboo Sea Ecotourism Area (绥江竹海生态旅游景区) and surrounding bamboo villages.

Accommodation consists mainly of county-town hotels, rural inns, family-operated homestays and small countryside resorts. Visitors seeking dependable restaurants, transport and evening services should stay in Guangning County town, while travellers prioritising scenery can select a bamboo-forest homestay closer to the rural attractions.

Bamboo-themed decoration alone does not guarantee a forest location. Guests should check the map carefully, request recent exterior photographs and confirm the driving time to the main bamboo landscape.

Rural accommodation is most suitable for couples, photographers, nature-study groups and travellers willing to accept limited nightlife and simpler services.

Sihui City: Jade Trade, Business Travel and Waterfall Excursions

Sihui offers two very different accommodation environments. The urban districts serve jade purchasing and business travel, while the northern rural areas provide access to Strange Stone River Scenic Area (奇石河景区) and countryside attractions.

    Sihui Urban Area

Visitors purchasing jade or attending trade activities should stay near Dongcheng Subdistrict, the main jade markets or established commercial centres.

Urban accommodation includes branded business hotels, local full-service hotels and budget properties. A central hotel makes it easier to visit several jade markets, arrange certification and transport purchased products.

Travellers should not assume that every hotel advertising proximity to “Jade City” is within walking distance of every market, because Sihui’s jade industry is distributed across several commercial clusters.

    Dawang High-Tech Zone

Dawang Subdistrict is the centre of Zhaoqing High-Tech Industrial Development Zone.

The area provides business hotels, conference accommodation and internationally branded properties aimed at corporate travellers. Current city-wide hotel listings include properties such as Ramada by Wyndham in the Dawang area.

Dawang is practical for industrial visits and business trips but is not the best base for Seven Star Crags, Dinghu Mountain or the old city.

    Strange Stone River

Accommodation near Strange Stone River is limited compared with urban Sihui.

Visitors should confirm whether a scenic-area lodge or rural hotel is currently operating and whether dinner is available. Staying in Sihui’s urban area and completing the attraction as a day trip is generally more reliable for travellers who require consistent facilities.

Gaoyao District: Family Farms and Ancient Villages

Gaoyao offers countryside accommodation around Cat’s Paw Valley Scenic Area (猫爪谷景区), Licha Bagua Village (黎槎八卦村) and agricultural communities south of the Xijiang River.

Family-oriented accommodation may include farm stays, themed rooms, camping areas and small rural guesthouses. These properties are suitable for children, weekend driving trips and agricultural activities.

Visitors should confirm which activities are included with accommodation. Animal interaction, flower fields, picking, camping equipment and recreational programmes may operate seasonally or require separate reservations.

Accommodation inside historic villages should also be selected carefully. A building may use traditional architectural elements without being located inside the protected village. Guests should confirm private bathrooms, fire safety, parking and whether vehicles can reach the entrance.

Travellers wanting countryside sightseeing without sacrificing urban dining and hotel standards can remain in Duanzhou and visit Gaoyao as a day trip.

Fengkai County: River Views, Karst Caves and Self-Driving

Fengkai is best explored by private vehicle, and accommodation planning should follow the route rather than one individual attraction.

Jiangkou Subdistrict (江口街道) provides the county’s most practical concentration of hotels, restaurants, shops and transport. It is a suitable base for Hejiang River scenery and longer drives toward Longshan, Dabanshi Rock and rural villages.

Riverside guesthouses and homestays may offer views of the Hejiang River, but guests should confirm whether the property is directly beside the river or merely located within the wider scenic region.

Flood-season conditions can affect low-lying roads, waterfront paths and river-view accommodation. During periods of heavy rain, choose an established hotel in the county centre rather than an isolated riverside property.

Traditional village accommodation near Xinghua or other rural areas is suitable for photographers and small cultural groups, but meals and transport should be arranged in advance.

Huaiji County and Xiashuai Ethnic Township

Huaiji County town is the most reliable accommodation base for visiting northern Zhaoqing.

It offers business hotels, local restaurants, supermarkets and transport services, making it more suitable than remote mountain villages for most international travellers and educational groups.

    Staying in Huaiji County Town

A county-town hotel allows travellers to begin early for Qiaotou’s karst landscapes, rural Huaiji or Xiashuai Zhuang and Yao Ethnic Township (下帅壮族瑶族乡).

Current accommodation listings show a range of local business hotels in Huaiji’s urban centre, although English names, service standards and online availability vary between platforms.

International visitors should confirm that the chosen property can complete passport registration and should carry the hotel name and address in Chinese.

    Staying in Xiashuai

Xiashuai is Zhaoqing’s only ethnic township and is developing cultural, agricultural and ecological tourism based on Zhuang, Yao and Han traditions. It is not yet a large or standardised resort area.

Rural accommodation inside the township is limited and may not be continuously available through major international booking platforms. Visitors should not assume that a property advertised as an “ethnic homestay” includes scheduled dance performances, traditional banquets or English-speaking hosts.

For most travellers, the practical arrangement is to stay in Huaiji County town and visit Xiashuai by private vehicle or organised coach. Groups arranging an overnight village programme should confirm rooms, meals, bathrooms, hot water, mobile coverage and emergency transport directly with the local operator.

    Accommodation Near Major Attractions

Seven Star Crags and Zhaoqing Ancient City

Stay around Xinghu Archway Square, Seven Star Crags East Gate, Yanqian Peninsula or the ancient city centre.

The Xinghu Archway area provides the best balance of restaurants and evening activity, the East Gate area offers newer branded hotels, Yanqian provides lakefront homestays, and the ancient city area is most suitable for heritage walks.

    Dinghu Mountain

Stay near the scenic-area entrance for early hiking and a quieter atmosphere, or choose the Dinghu urban centre for easier dining and shopping.

Railway travellers can stay near Zhaoqing East Station, although they will require local transport to reach the mountain entrance.

    Dragon Mother Temple

Pilgrims can stay near Yuecheng when suitable rooms are available. Visitors seeking more dependable facilities should stay in Deqing County town.

Festival dates follow the lunar calendar, and accommodation should be reserved well ahead of major ceremonies.

    Suijiang Bamboo Sea

Choose between a bamboo-area homestay for scenery and a Guangning County town hotel for convenience.

A rural stay is most worthwhile when the itinerary includes two days of forest walking, photography or bamboo-craft activities.

Strange Stone River and Sihui Jade Markets

Stay in urban Sihui for jade shopping and complete Strange Stone River as a day trip.

An overnight rural stay is suitable only when the accommodation and meal arrangements have been directly confirmed.

Cat’s Paw Valley and Licha Bagua Village

Families can select a countryside homestay near Cat’s Paw Valley. Cultural travellers visiting Licha Bagua Village may stay in Gaoyao or return to Duanzhou.

The two attractions can be combined by private vehicle, but they should not be treated as one compact walking area.

    Hejiang Greenway Gallery

Stay in Jiangkou for the widest selection of services.

Riverside accommodation can be selected for photography and cycling holidays, provided weather conditions and vehicle access are suitable.

    Xiashuai Ethnic Township

Stay in Huaiji County town unless a verified cultural programme includes confirmed rural accommodation.

The journey to Xiashuai should be organised in advance because evening transport and ride-hailing availability are limited.

    Accommodation for Different Travellers

    First-Time Visitors

Stay in central Duanzhou for two or three nights. This provides convenient access to Seven Star Crags, the ancient city, local restaurants and transport toward Dinghu Mountain.

    Families

Choose a modern branded hotel in Duanzhou or Dinghu for predictable facilities. A countryside family stay in Gaoyao can be added for one night when farm activities have been confirmed.

    Couples and Photographers

Select a lake-view homestay around Yanqian Peninsula, a bamboo-area guesthouse in Guangning or a riverside property in Fengkai.

Request the exact room view before booking, because not every room in a “lake-view” or “river-view” property faces the water.

    Senior Travellers

Prioritise lifts, walk-in showers, breakfast, vehicle access and proximity to restaurants.

Avoid guesthouses requiring long stairways, ferry transfers or luggage transport through village lanes unless assistance has been arranged.

    Educational Groups

Use established hotels in Duanzhou, Deqing, Sihui or Huaiji County town.

Group accommodation should provide coach parking, early breakfast, invoice services, meeting space and reliable room allocation. Rural workshops and ethnic programmes can be visited during the day.

    Business Travellers

Choose central Duanzhou for municipal business, Dawang for high-tech-zone visits, Sihui’s urban area for jade commerce and Zhaoqing New District or Dinghu for exhibitions and railway access.

    International Visitors

Confirm passport registration, foreign-card acceptance, English-name consistency and whether the hotel can issue the required accommodation documentation.

The Chinese hotel name and address should be saved offline for taxi drivers and local assistance.

    Booking and Festival Advice

Zhaoqing accommodation demand rises during Chinese public holidays, the Dragon Mother Festival, major cultural events and peak spring or autumn weekends.

Hotels near Seven Star Crags, Dinghu Mountain and the Dragon Mother Temple should be reserved early for festival travel. Rural homestays may have stricter cancellation rules because they operate with fewer rooms.

Hotel prices change according to date, room type, festival demand and platform promotions, so fixed price ranges quickly become inaccurate. Compare the same room type across platforms and check whether breakfast, parking, attraction tickets or activity packages are included.

Reviews should be filtered by date. Recent comments are more useful than an old overall rating when evaluating cleanliness, renovation, noise and service.

    Important Accommodation Checks

Before confirming a reservation, verify the property’s exact map position, current business status, room type, window and view, lift access, parking, breakfast, cancellation policy and passport-registration ability.

For rural accommodation, also confirm hot water, air conditioning, private bathrooms, evening meals, mobile signal and emergency transport.

For homestays around lakes, forests and rivers, ask about mosquitoes, humidity and sound insulation. During the rainy season, check flood, landslide and ferry conditions before travelling to remote properties.

Visitors booking “hot-spring hotels” should ask whether the water is genuinely from a natural hot spring, whether bathing is included and whether pools are currently operating.

    Zhaoqing Accommodation Summary

Zhaoqing Hotel Services with Yaso Trip

Yaso Trip can arrange Zhaoqing accommodation for independent travellers, families, educational groups, cultural delegations and corporate visitors. Services can include hotel selection, room inspection, group reservations, railway-station transfers, licensed vehicles, multilingual guides, early breakfast, coach parking, festival accommodation and rural homestay coordination.

A classic first visit can be based in Duanzhou, combining Seven Star Crags, the ancient city and Dinghu Mountain. Longer journeys should add separate overnight stays in Deqing, Guangning, Fengkai or Huaiji rather than returning to central Zhaoqing after every excursion.

The most suitable accommodation is not necessarily the hotel with the highest category. Location, transport, recent renovation, operating status and compatibility with the planned route are more important. A carefully selected hotel can reduce travel time and transform a large, geographically dispersed Zhaoqing itinerary into a comfortable cultural and nature holiday.
