Ethnic Groups in Sanjiang County

Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County is the county with the largest population of the Dong people in the five Dong Autonomous Counties (namely, Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County, Zhijiang Dong Autonomous County, Xinhuang Dong Autonomous County, Tongdao Dong Autonomous County and Yunping Dong Autonomous County) in China. In 2012, the population of Sanjiang Dong Autonomous County was 367,707, and the Dong population accounted for 57%. There are Dong, Han, Miao, Yao, Zhuang and other ethnic groups.

Dong Costumes Culture

Dong costumes are colorful. The styles of men and women are different in different regions. The costume of Dong people on both sides of the Rongjiang River are beautiful decorated by splendid flowers. The costumes of Dong people in Mengjiang River and Xunjiang River focus on warm color and generosity.

The Dong costumes are in varied colourful splendour. The exquisite embroidery in the costumes, the fine and delicate weaving, the vivid patterns, and the dazzling array of silver ornaments have the unique characteristics. In the view of aesthetics, the Dong costumes have four characteristics: pattern, color, decoration and style. The Dong people's costumes are exquisitely designed, and they are widely used to simulate nature, pay attention to symmetry, convey emotions and carry culture.
