Beijing’s New Airport to be Linked with Railway & Subway

Progress has been made in building a transport network around the new airport in Beijing’s southern suburbs, which will begin trial operation in September 2019.

Beijing Daxing International Airport, a subway linking the city to the airport, is under construction and a high-speed railway linking the airport to Tianjin is also under construction, sources with the city’s transport authority said. Tianjin is 120 kilometers east of Beijing.

The first phase of the 41.36km-long subway has entered the final stage of construction and all three stations have been completed, according to the office of Beijing major project construction headquarters.

The line, which is connected to the Beijing subway network, will run simultaneously with the airport in September.

Located 46 kilometers south of downtown Beijing, the new airport aims to ease the pressure of overcrowding at Beijing capital international airport.

The planned railway will enable a 36-minute ride from the airport to Tianjin.

Terminal 3 of Tianjin Binhai International Airport is planned to connect with the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway(one of China’s busiest railway lines) by another railway which is under consruction.

“In 2019, there will be a great leap forward in the integration of transport networks in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region,” said Wu Bingjun, deputy director of Tianjin’s transport commission.
