Beijing – Zhangjiakou Intercity Railway

Beijing-Zhangjiakou intercity railway, also known as the Jingzhang intercity railway, is a high-speed railwaycurrently under construction between Beijing and Zhangjiakou in Hebei province. This route will have a length of approximately 173.947 kilometers of double tracked high speed rail, with a maximum speed of 350 km/h (220 mph) between Changping and Donghuayuan North. However within urban Beijing the maximum speed is restricted to between 80 to 120 km/h (50 to 75 mph).[1] The rest of the line has a designed speed of 250 km/h (160 mph) but operating at 200 km/h (120 mph). The line is expected to be complete by August 2019 and open to public by the end of 2019.[2]

The main line has 10 stations. The Yanqing branch has another station, Yanqing railway station. The Chongli Branch has two more stations, Zhaochuan South (reserved station) and Taizicheng. The railway was originally scheduled to start construction in 2009,[3] however due to the Ministry of Railways adjusting the high-speed rail construction program this was postponed until 2014.[4] This railway is expected to connect with the future Zhangjiakou–Hohhot high-speed railway and Datong–Zhangjiakou high-speed railway (zh), both also currently under construction.

2022 Winter Olympic Games

The Beijing-Zhangjiakou intercity railway is considered a crucial and vital link between all three venue clusters for the 2022 Winter Olympics to be held in Beijing. The urban area of Beijing will host most of the indoor skating, ice hockey and curling events plus the opening and closing ceremonies. Yanqing District, a suburban district of Beijing, will host Alpine skiing plus the luge and bobsleigh. Zhangjiakou, a city in Hebei Province, will host Nordic skiing, snowboarding and freestyle skiing. This railway places all venues within one hour of each other.
