🌄 Overview of Zecha Stone Forest (则岔石林)
Zecha Stone Forest (则岔石林) means “Home of the Antelope” in the Tibetan language. It is located in Zecha Village, Larenguan Township, Luqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province (甘南藏族自治州碌曲县拉仁关乡则岔村). As a National 4A-level Scenic Area, it belongs to the Gahai–Zecha National Nature Reserve (尕海-则岔国家级自然保护区).
Located on the eastern edge of the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau, Zecha Stone Forest is a rare siliceous limestone karst stone forest canyon in northwest China. The scenic area stretches approximately 22 kilometers, with elevations ranging from 2,900 to 4,300 meters. It combines spectacular stone peaks, primitive spruce forests, alpine meadows, and clear mountain streams, creating a unique highland landscape.
The area is also rich in cultural heritage. Many legends related to King Gesar (格萨尔王) are passed down here, and historically the region was part of an ancient route connected with the Tang–Tubo alliance passage (唐蕃会盟古通道). Compared with more famous scenic areas in Gannan, Zecha Stone Forest remains relatively quiet, primitive, and less commercialized, making it ideal for travelers seeking authentic nature experiences.
⚠️ Important: The scenic area includes both developed visitor areas and undeveloped wilderness zones. Ordinary visitors should only follow the official wooden walkway routes and should not enter remote unmapped valleys without permission.
The entrance ticket is 40 RMB. Students and seniors aged 60–69 can enjoy half-price tickets, while visitors over 70 years old and children under 1.2 meters can enter free of charge with valid documents. Travel insurance costs 5 RMB and is optional. The sightseeing shuttle bus costs 10 RMB and is also optional.
During the peak season from May to October, opening hours are 09:00–17:00, with the last admission at 16:30. From November to April of the following year, the weather is extremely cold and the scenic area is generally closed, so visiting is not recommended.

⚠️ Travel Tips and Safety Information
Zecha Stone Forest has an elevation range of 2,900–4,300 meters, with large temperature differences between day and night. Even in summer, visitors should bring outdoor clothing such as a windproof jacket or light down jacket. Ultraviolet radiation is extremely strong, so sunglasses, sunscreen, and hats are essential.
Avoid intense running or jumping activities to reduce the risk of altitude sickness. Take time to adapt to the high-altitude environment.
Some areas have weak or no mobile phone signal. Download offline maps before departure, travel with companions whenever possible, and do not enter undeveloped valleys alone.
Areas beyond the official walkways are protected zones. Unauthorized entry, camping, and outdoor cooking are prohibited. Do not collect or remove stones from the landscape. Local communities regard the mountains as sacred places, so visitors should respect local beliefs and take all garbage away.
Some sections of the canyon walkway can become slippery. Wear anti-slip hiking shoes. If choosing horseback riding, use official service providers and confirm prices and duration in advance.
Mountain weather changes quickly, so always carry rain protection. During rainy conditions, the risk of falling rocks in canyon areas increases, and visitors should pay close attention to safety.
