    Three Gorges Museum

    The Three Gorges Museum (simplified Chinese: 重庆中国三峡博物馆; traditional Chinese: 重慶中國三峽博物館) is a museum in the Yuzhong District of Chongqing, about the Three Gorges and Chongqing. It is one of the largest museums in the country.

    The museum opened in 2005, replacing the former Chongqing Museum. It is located near the Chongqing People's Hall. It aims to undertake education, preservation, and scientific research with respect to cultural heritage and the natural environment in Chongqing and the Three Gorges region of the Yangtze River.

    Four Major Eexhibition Halls

    Containing over 170,000 relics and artifacts from the surrounding region, the 23,000 metres floor-space of the museum is divided into four major exhibition halls with several themes, one of the halls dedicated to the 'history and spirit of the splendid Three Gorges', one dedicated to the 'long history of the ancient Bashu area', one dedicated to the history of the Japanese invasion of Chongqing and one to the history and development of Chongqing itself. The museum is also home to one of China's most precious artifacts. All of the above make it a must-see in Chongqing.

    There are four main displays

    1. Glorious Three Gorges
    2. Ancient Ba-Yu – early history of Chongqing
    3. Chongqing: the City Road – 20th century history
    4. The Anti-Japanese War (1937–1945)

    How to Get There

    • By Subway
      Take metro line 2 and get off at Zengjiayan Station.
    • By Bus
      Take tourism bus line 480 and get off at Three Gorges Museum Station.
      Take bus line 112, 132, 145, 152, 181, 262, 322, 338, 421, 810, 829, 862 or 881 and get off at Da Li Tang (People's Assembly Hall) Station.    

    Useful Travel Tips

    1. Ticket & Opening
      The museum is free to public and it opens from 9:00 ~ 17:00, and it closes on Monday, and it will stop receiving tourists from 16:00.
    2. Tour Guide Service
      The museum will provide tour guide service for tourist. There are three exhibition halls have English tour guide service, and they are Marvelous Three Gorges, Ancient Ba-Yu and Chongqing: Journey to Urbanization. You can find the tour guide at the reception center in the first floor. Service time: from 9:00 to 17:00 (11:30 ~ 12:30 will suspend to send out tour guide, 16:00 ~ 17:00 will stop to send out tour guide). Service length: 1 hour per time Fees: ¥150
    3. Audio Guide
      Tourists can also rent an audio guide machine at the reception center in the first floor. The audio guide machine provides several languages, including Chinese, English, Russian, French, Japanese and Korean. Fees: ¥20/piece, and the guarantee deposit is ¥100/piece, and you need to rent it by presenting your valid documentation, like passport. Rent time: from 9:00 ~ 17:00
