Qi Jiguang Statue & Wengcheng Gate (戚继光雕像与瓮城)

At the entrance square of Taipingzhai stands a towering 8.5-meter granite statue of Qi Jiguang. The Wengcheng Gate (瓮城), rebuilt in 1985 with the “Taipingzhai (太平寨)” stone plaque, serves as the starting point of your climb.

Round Beacon Tower (圆形墩台/北齐烽燧)

One of the best-preserved towers from the Northern Qi dynasty, this solid round beacon was built using traditional dry-stone masonry. It is an ideal spot to witness the true ancient Great Wall style.

Widow Tower (寡妇楼 / 巾帼楼)

The 6th watchtower of Taipingzhai, a hollow square brick tower, carries a touching legend: it was said to be funded by 12 widows whose husbands died building the Wall. Originally called Widow Tower (寡妇楼), it was later renamed Heroine Tower (巾帼楼).

• Public Transport:

  • From Tianjin Tongsha Bus Station (通莎汽车站), take a coach to Jizhou (蓟州).

  • Or take a train from Tianjin/Tianjin North Station to Jizhou (under ¥20).

  • From Jizhou, transfer to bus No. 3 (蓟3路, every 1–1.5 hrs, ¥5) to Huangyaguan (黄崖关). ⚠️ Last bus departs around 18:30.

• By Car: Drive via the Jinji Expressway (津蓟高速) for direct access.

• Take a scenic shuttle bus (¥20–30 one way) to Taipingzhai entrance.

• Walk downhill from Taipingzhai to Huangyaguan Gate and Bagua City—about 2.2 km, 1–2 hours, saving energy while enjoying great views.
