  • Shimen Mountain Stream of Mount Lushan in Jiujiang

Shimen Mountain Stream of Mount Lushan in Jiujiang庐山石门涧
    (江西省九江市)

Nestled at the western foot of Mount Lushan (400m above sea level), Shimen Mountain Stream is renowned as the Western Gateway of Lushan and the No.1 scenic spot of Lushan. A typical Quaternary glacial valley with towering peaks forming a stone gate, a stunning 40-meter waterfall, ancient literati relics, rare plants and thrilling outdoor activities, it is free for visitors with a valid Lushan main ticket (within 7 days) and perfect for geology study, hiking and cultural exploration.

Why Shimen Mountain Stream Is a Must-Visit

Stunning Glacial Valley & Waterfall Views

    • A 40-meter-high waterfall cascades down the cliff, with rainbows frequently appearing after rains. The narrow Little Stone Gate only allows one person to pass sideways.
    • Well-preserved Quaternary glacial landforms, including cirques, ice tables and U-shaped valleys, ideal for geology lovers and students.

    Rich Cultural Heritage

    • Relics of Shimen Hermitage built by the poet Xie Lingyun in the Southern Dynasty, cliff carvings and the lecture platform of the monk Huiyuan, telling the long cultural history of Lushan.
    • Praised by Xu Xiake in his travel notes, it has become a living fossil of the integration of landscape and literature.

Quiet Hiking & Thrilling Outdoor Activities

    • Fewer tourists than the popular Lushan spots, with a peaceful trail along the mountain stream, perfect for summer cooling and autumn foliage viewing.
    • Exciting options such as suspension bridges, zip lines and professional rock climbing walls (national rock climbing base) for outdoor enthusiasts.

Key Highlights & Practical Visiting Information
