    Why is People's Square in Shanghai so Special?

    People's Square is a large public square in the Huangpu District of Shanghai, originally as the Shanghai Horse Racing Hall. It was the site for luxury people to hold the horse racing matches. Shanghai People Square is an outdoor facility including the square, the park and the surroundings. It is the Shanghai center of economy, culture, politics, transportation and tourism. It is also one of the most significant landmarks in Shanghai.

    Located in Huangpu District, Shanghai, Shanghai People's Square is the political, economic, cultural, tourism center and transportation hub of Shanghai.

    How to Get There?

    • Take Metro Line 1, Line 2 or Line 8 and get off at People's Square Station.
    • Take City Sightseeing Bus Line 1 or Line 2 to get there.
    • Take bus 46, 49, 123, 145, 312, 451, or Shangchuan Special Line and get off at Renmin Guangchang (People's Square) Station.

    Highlights of People's Square in Shanghai

    This square is known as the lung of Shanghai. To the north is the office building of Shanghai municipal government, and to the northwest is the Shanghai Grand Theatre. Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Hall in the northwest and Shanghai Museum in the south.

    Underground Shopping Mall

    The underground shopping mall of people's Square is the largest underground commercial center in China, with a total area of more than 30000 square meters, including underground commercial street and underground shopping mall, with two ground entrances and exits, two escalators and four pedestrian escalators. From the lawn at the southeast end of the people's Square, take the escalator to the sinking square below 8 meters, and enter the underground commercial street. This is a long street 300 meters long and 36 meters wide. There are nearly 100 shops on both sides, every 50 square meters, with glass curtain walls and "Indian red" and "Mongolian black" granite on the ground. Stores mainly engaged in clothing shoes, watches, glasses, photography, food, coffee shop, banks, supermarkets and so on.
