Why is the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai so Special?

The Oriental Pearl Radio and Television Tower is a TV tower in Shanghai. At 468 m (1,535 feet) high, it was the tallest structure in China from 1994–2007, when it was surpassed by the Shanghai World Financial Center. The tower is brightly lit in different LED sequences at night. 

Where is the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai? 

The Oriental Pearl Television Tower is located at at the tip of Lujiazui in the Pudong New Area. Its location by the side of Huangpu River, opposite The Bund, makes it a distinct landmark in the area.

How to Get There?

• Take Metro Line 2 and get off at Lujiazui Station
• Take Buses No. 81, 82, 85, 314, 583, 774, 795, 798, 799, 870, 961, 971, 985, 992, 993, then get off at Lujiazui Station

Highlights of Oriental Pearl TV Tower

Observation Decks

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower is made up of three main full-scope sightseeing spheres. Each sphere has an observation table. Visitors can enjoy the magnificent scenery of Shanghai at different heights.
The highest sphere is called Space Module at 350 meters (1,148 feet). It's great to have a bird's-eye view of the city, but it's hard to see a close-up view of the Bund and other attractions.
The lower sphere has three horizontal planes between 259M (850ft) and 267m (876ft). The top floor is the revolving restaurant and the bottom two floors are the viewing platform. From the 263m subjective light floor, you can take the elevator to the 259M glass-bottom sightseeing floor.
Stroll along the Huangpu River and enjoy a 360 degree panoramic view of the Huangpu River and the buildings on both sides of the river, which is unforgettable. Visitors with acrophobia should avoid this glass floor.
The lowest sphere, known as Space City, is 90 meters (295 feet) high.

Shanghai Municipal History Museum

Shanghai Municipal History Museum is located in the tower's pedestal, which is characterized by the historical development of Shanghai. Visitors can have a vivid understanding of Shanghai's history by displaying precious cultural relics, documents, pictures and advanced audio-visual displays. The exhibition consists of six parts: concession, old municipal construction and street view, urban economy, urban life and political changes in Shanghai's modern culture, showing profound changes in all aspects of Shanghai.

Revolving Restaurant

The revolving restaurant (revolving restaurant) is 267m away from the ground. While enjoying lunch or dinner, diners can enjoy the spectacular scenery of Shanghai. It is the second tallest revolving restaurant in Asia, covering an area of 1500 square meters. It can hold 350 customers at a time. The restaurant rotates every two hours. It's a great night.
