Lushan Waterfall of Mount Lushan in Jiujiang

Lushan Waterfall Group is not a single waterfall, but a collection of 22 cascades scattered across the entire Mount Lushan Scenic Area in Lushan City, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province. It is located between the abrupt cliffs and precipices in the southern, eastern and western foothills of Mount Lushan. It has been world-famous for the timeless poem "Looking at the Waterfall at Mount Lushan" by the great Tang poet Li Bai: "Plunging three thousand feet straight down, as if the Milky Way had tumbled down from the nine heavens". It is the pinnacle landmark of Lushan's natural wonders and poetic culture. There is no unified ticket for the entire waterfall group; it is divided into different scenic areas, cable cars and sightseeing bus systems, all included or superimposed on the general Lushan ticket or separate scenic area tickets. The opening hours of each waterfall are subject to the respective scenic area regulations. It is suitable for waterfall photography, poetry research, mountain hiking and geological popular science, and is an indispensable core attraction for in-depth tours of Mount Lushan.

Four Core Waterfalls with Distinctive Features

1. Xiufeng Kaixian Waterfall (Huangyan Waterfall & Mawei Waterfall) : The real scene of Li Bai's "Looking at the Waterfall at Mount Lushan". It consists of two cascades, converging into the Dragon Pool. The largest water volume in summer, with rainbows often appearing in the water mist.
2. Sandiequan Three-tiered Waterfall : The "No.1 Wonder of Lushan", with a total drop of 155 meters. It is divided into three levels, with distinct forms. It is particularly spectacular after rain, and ice waterfalls can be encountered in winter.
3. Shimenjian Waterfall : The earliest recorded waterfall in Lushan, with a drop of about 100 meters. The canyon is deep and the rocks are jagged, suitable for outdoor hiking enthusiasts.
4. Huanglongtan & Wulongtan Waterfalls : Located in the West Valley of Lushan, adjacent to each other. The waterfalls have small drops but the pools are quiet and clear, surrounded by towering ancient trees.

Practical Visiting Information

• Tickets: No unified ticket. Xiufeng Scenic Area, Sandiequan and Shimenjian have separate tickets/cable car tickets. Huanglongtan and Wulongtan are free (included in the general ticket). Real-name reservation is required.
• Opening Hours: Xiufeng/Sandiequan/Shimenjian: 08:00–17:00 (admission stops at 16:30). Huanglongtan/Wulongtan are open all day along the West Valley trail.
• Transportation: Take the scenic sightseeing bus to the corresponding stations. Sandiequan and Shimenjian require additional hiking or cable car rides. Xiufeng is at the southern foot of Lushan, accessible by self-driving and sightseeing bus combined transportation.
• Dress Code & Tips: Wear non-slip hiking shoes. Bring sun protection, quick-dry clothes and rain gear in summer. Keep warm and wear crampons in winter. Cameras need waterproof protection in the waterfall area.
