The Kuixinglou Square (魁星楼广场) is located in Yuzhong District, Chongqing, near the core Jiefangbei CBD. It is one of the most iconic examples of Chongqing’s 8D vertical urban structure, combining ancient cultural heritage, extreme topographic engineering, and modern skyscraper density into a single layered public space.

The original Kuixing Pavilion dates back to 1725 (Qing Dynasty), once used as a traditional site for scholars to worship Kuixing (the deity of literature and exam success). It was demolished in the 1950s and later rebuilt in the 1990s during urban redevelopment. Today it forms a unique hybrid space of ancient pavilion + elevated 22F plaza + suspended sky bridges + cyber city skyline, making it one of Chongqing’s most surreal urban landmarks.

Two parallel steel bridges connect the Kuixinglou plaza to adjacent buildings at a height of 68 meters. From the bridge, visitors can see vertical cliffs of residential buildings, stacked highways, and dense urban layers directly below. It is one of the strongest “depth illusion” photography spots in Chongqing.

Ancient Pavilion vs Cyberpunk Skyline Contrast

The central Kuixing Pavilion features yellow glazed tiles, red wooden pillars, and traditional Chinese symmetry, while directly behind it stands the high-rise skyline of Jiefangbei. Important Note: The sky bridges are fully open-air with slight structural movement. There is no full glass enclosure. Visitors with severe acrophobia should avoid standing in the center of the bridge.

Taxi / Navigation Warning

Do NOT search only “Kuixinglou” (risk of being directed to lower riverside road requiring stairs). Use:

• or Kuixinglou Parking Building (立体停车楼)

These lead directly to the 22F plaza level entrance.

Parking is limited (around 10 RMB per entry) and usually full after 16:00.

Night crowd density is high; protect personal belongings carefully. Kuixinglou (Chongqing) should not be confused with Kuixinglou Street in Chengdu, which is a completely different food street. No public restroom is located inside the plaza; nearby hospital facilities are the closest option.
