Huaiyuan Building is a fine example of the exquisite rammed-earth architecture in China. It is composed of two rings, each with a diameter of 38 meters. Huaiyuan Tulou is the most exquisite and well protected Tulou. And it is a traditional residential building of the Han nationality, built in 1905-1909. It covers an area of 1384.7 square meters, with 4 floors, 34 rooms on each floor, a total of 136 rooms in the building.
A tulou is usually a large, enclosed and fortified earth building, most commonly rectangular or circular in configuration, with very thick load-bearing rammed earth walls between three and five stories high and housing up to 800 people. Smaller interior buildings are often enclosed by these huge peripheral walls which can contain halls, storehouses, wells and living areas, the whole structure resembling a small fortified city.
Huaiyuan Tulou is located in the east of Meilin Town, Nanjing County, Fujian Province, 54 kilometers away from Nanjing County.

By Bus: There are two buses from Xiamen to Yunshuiyao villiage in Nanjing every day. They depart from Hubin South Bus Station in Xiamen at 7:10 a.m. or 12:10 p.m. and arrive at Yunshuiyao villiage at about 10:45 a.m. or 15:50 p.m. You can find the Hegui Tulou in the ancient villiage.
The name of Huaiyuan Tulou has three meanings: The first meaning is memory of family in the faraway places; the second meaning is the owner of the building comes from a faraway places; and the third meaning is to instruct the children of Jane's family to have great goal.
The building covers an area of 1384.7 square meters, has 4 floors, 14.5 meters high, and with 34 rooms on each floor, a total of 136 rooms can be find in the building. Couplets and calligraphy can be found in many places in the building
