    Why is Hegui Tulou So Special?

    Heguilou (和贵楼)  is a buildings in Yunshuiyao ancient town, it was built by over 200 hundred wooden sticks and standing there over hundreds of years. It's called the wonder of the world built on the swamp. Built in the Qing Dynasty, covering an area of 1547 square meters, it is the highest Tulou  in Nanjing.

    Brief Introduction of Tulou

    A tulou is usually a large, enclosed and fortified earth building, most commonly rectangular or circular in configuration, with very thick load-bearing rammed earth walls between three and five stories high and housing up to 800 people. Smaller interior buildings are often enclosed by these huge peripheral walls which can contain halls, storehouses, wells and living areas, the whole structure resembling a small fortified city.

    Where is Hegui Tulou?

    Hegui Tulou, also known as Shanjiao Tuloug, is located in Meilin Town, Nanjing County, 53 kilometers away from Nanjing County.

    By Bus: There are two buses from Xiamen to Yunshuiyao villiage in Nanjing every day. They depart from Hubin South Bus Station in Xiamen at 7:10 a.m. or 12:10 p.m. and arrive at Yunshuiyao villiage at about 10:45 a.m. or 15:50 p.m. You can find the Hegui Tulou in the ancient villiage.

    What to See in Hegui Tulou

    The Highest Tulou

    Hegui Tulou is a five stories building with a height of 21.5 meters. Hegui Tulou is the tallest of all known earth buildings in Fujian. There are 28 rooms on each floor, 140 rooms in total.

    Hegui Tulou

    The name of the building Hegui literally means harmonies. Harmony is the fundamentality in interpersonal relationship in the traditional Chinese Culture. Just as the name suggests, people's life in Hegui Building is quite harmonious and peaceful.

    The Legend

    It is said that when the building was built, the land was not found to be a swamp at the beginning. After the first floor of the building was built, suddenly, the whole building sank slowly into the rotten ground like a shipwreck. The people who built the building had no choice but to pile more than 100 cubic meters on the sinking ground to support the building, so that the building is still stand there until today.
