?️ overview
Mount Youyi (友谊峰), the main peak of the Altay Mountains, stands proudly at 4,374 meters in Burqin County, Altay Prefecture, Xinjiang, China. Although it lies close to the borders of China, Mongolia, Russia, and Kazakhstan, the peak itself is fully located within China.
This majestic mountain is snow-covered year-round and home to an astonishing 374 modern glaciers. The largest of these, the Kanas Glacier (also called Friendship Peak Glacier), spans 30.13 km² with an ice reserve of around 3.9 billion m³. It is also remarkable for being the lowest-altitude valley glacier in China, with its tongue ending at just 2,416 meters above sea level.
As the source of the Burqin River, a major tributary of the Irtysh River, Friendship Peak nourishes unique ecosystems and remains a strictly protected natural area.
