Dadeng Island (大嶝岛) is one of the famous “Hero Islands” (英雄三岛), rich in war-time history, unique cross-strait culture, and seaside charm. The island is not only home to many battlefield relics where you can look across to Kinmen (金门), but also offers duty-free Taiwanese products and delicious seafood.
Dadeng, together with Xiaodeng Island (小嶝岛) and Jiaoyu (角屿), forms the Hero Islands. The closest point to Kinmen Island is only about 1,800 meters away. With its clean air, blue seas, and unspoiled coastline, it is often called a “natural oxygen bar”.

?️ Top Attractions & Experiences
Hero Islands Battlefield Park (英雄三岛战地观光园)
The core site for learning about Dadeng’s war history. Here you’ll find fortifications, tunnels, tanks, patrol boats, warships, and weapon displays. The highlight is the giant loudspeaker (直径2.95米大喇叭) once used for broadcasting to Kinmen—stand in front of it and you can even glimpse Kinmen Island.
Former Site of Kinmen County Government During WWII (抗战时期金门县政府旧址)
In 1937, after Kinmen was occupied, the county government relocated to Tianqian Village (田墘村) on Dadeng Island. For eight years, it stood as a base of resistance against Japanese occupation. Today, visitors can explore the preserved government offices, party headquarters, meeting hall, and police station, recognized as a Fujian heritage site related to Taiwan.
Jiujia Cuo Battlefield Folk Garden (九架厝战地民俗园)
This folk park recreates wartime history through red-brick houses, cultural exhibitions, gun turrets, and underground tunnels. Visitors can also try interactive experiences like mock shelling, shooting practice, and dressing in military uniforms, as well as enjoy local snacks such as Dadeng Oyster Vermicelli (大嶝海蛎面线).
Dadeng Cross-Strait Duty-Free Market (大嶝对台小额商品交易市场)
The only cross-strait duty-free trade market in China, where you can shop for Taiwanese goods such as snacks, drinks, alcohol, cosmetics, and crafts—often at discounted prices.
